Woodturning FAQ - All information about woodturning accessories
What are chucks and jaws used for?

They reliably secure workpieces in the lathe. Depending on the jaw shape, you can clamp workpieces from the inside or outside – ideal for bowls, cups, or cans.

What is a faceplate and when do I use it?

A faceplate is perfect for flat workpieces, such as bowls. The wood is attached with screws, ensuring a secure hold even with larger diameters. A rule of thumb is that the faceplate diameter should be at least one-third the diameter of the workpiece.

Which extraction system is recommended?

Sanding produces fine wood dust. A dust extraction system or portable dust extractor protects the respiratory system and ensures clean working conditions – a must for regular woodturning. Respirator masks are also a good alternative or supplement.

What small helpers make work easier?

Workpiece gauges, calipers, grinding aids and LED work lights are practical additions that significantly increase accuracy and comfort.
