The STRATOS FU-230 was developed in collaboration with experienced wood turners, including the well-known master wood turner Alfred Baumann.
The goal was to create a mid-range lathe with exceptional features. This machine combines the latest innovations with the tried and tested. It is a lathe suitable for beginners, advanced users, professionals and artists alike with an optimal price-performance ratio.
The STRATOS FU-230 has been the best-selling among them for several years DRECHSELMEISTER Standing machines and has now proven itself in thousands of workshops. It has been constantly developed and upgraded over the years and now offers even more use and comfort!

The main focus was on the following points when developing the STRATOS FU-230:

• Particularly smooth running when turning bowls, vases, long wood and fly turning thanks to the solid gray cast iron construction
• Wide and heavy cast legs for optimal stability and best vibration inhibition
• Precisely aligned tips are the best prerequisite for turning writing instruments, miniature and longitudinal wood turning and for clean drilling results
• Wide rotation speed range on both pulleys; This means that a large proportion of the workpieces can be processed without changing the belt stage
• Powerful motor with frequency converter, particularly advantageous when turning shells
• Great ease of use: rotatable and movable headstock, quick conversion for external turning, installation of the (optional) additional bed as an external turning device at several mounting points possible
• Comfortable working thanks to the mobile control box with magnetic function
• Large center height for machining large diameter workpieces

NEW in the revised version of the STRATOS FU-230:

• Headstock with cast cantilever arm for holding, for example, an optionally available suction device

The Stratos FU-230 differs from many other machines on the market due to numerous useful details, such as:

• Specially designed, solid headstock with motor orientation to the right. This enables a particularly space-saving design, ensures that the machine runs very smoothly and has the important advantage that the belt can be changed to a new belt within seconds if it is worn out. (On many other machines, the entire spindle including bearings must be removed.) The motor is protected against dust and damage by a cover. This cover plate is mounted on a practical holding arm (e.g. for mounting a suction funnel).
• The large handwheel, which only fits due to the special headstock design, offers additional comfort for the user.
• The belt box is equipped with 2 belt levels and a limit switch. The quick-release fastener in combination with a limit switch (this prevents the machine from being switched on unintentionally), as well as the very good accessibility, enable quick switching between the two belt levels.
• The cast legs are particularly solid, with adjustable feet with an extra strong M20 thread. Multiple mounting points for the optionally available additional bed result in extreme versatility, even when space is limited in the workshop.
• The proven system with the optionally available additional bed is also ingenious: This can be used both as a bench bed extension and as an external turning device (at several positions on the machine). The additional bed contains a stand and an increase for the hand rest (see accessories section). The whole thing saves you from purchasing 2 individual additional parts (bed extension and external swivel device).
• A quick-change system for the additional bed is optionally available, which makes it much easier to quickly convert the bed (from bed extension to external rotation).
• The lower part of the hand rest has an extra strong wall and ensures the best possible stability when processing heavy workpieces.
• The tailstock is equipped with a quill with a trapezoidal thread spindle, the trapezoidal thread runs very smoothly and ensures longevity (even if a lot of drilling is done with the tailstock). 100 mm quill travel is top in the class. The highlight is the quick-change system of the quill, which means that an optionally available ER25 drilling quill can be used (for extra precise drilling processes). See details below.
• A 2-stage brake switch on the frequency converter box allows you to set the braking time (standard/slow). This means that the braking time can be increased accordingly so that even larger and unbalanced workpieces can be braked safely.
• The spindle in the headstock is equipped with the new ASR Euro sequence safety system. This means that faceplates and matching chucks can be fixed on the spindle with a safety ring. This brings an enormous increase in safety when working because workpieces including chucks cannot simply run off the spindle during operation.
• The headstock has recently been equipped with a double clamping system; Thanks to a modified clamping plate with an additional hole, the headstock can be screwed securely to the existing grid points in addition to the normal hand lever clamp. This means that the headstock is doubly secured, which results in a very high level of stability when machining heavy or unbalanced workpieces and thus ensures even more safety when working.
• Some other practical details are the main switch (for de-energizing the machine), two mounted 230V sockets on the FU box for additional consumers (e.g. lamps), as well as optionally available accessories such as the take-away quick-dismantling system for the lower part of the hand rest Raises for the cast legs (especially for tall wood turners), holders for tool rests, suction funnels, etc.

*(Explanations for the ER25 drill quill system:
The quill quick-change system on the tailstock of the STRATOS FU-230 makes it possible to use a drilling quill with a high-quality ER25 collet system. This means that drills can be clamped directly and precisely into the appropriate ER25 collet, without using a separate drill chuck or without losing center width when drilling.
ER25 collets are extremely precise and have been proven for years in both woodworking and, above all, metalworking.
The trapezoidal thread spindle for the quill adjustment on the STRATOS FU-230 ensures smooth and fast advance, which also benefits the system. Since the ER25 drilling quill is used exclusively for the purpose of drilling in the tailstock and is not used in normal operation of the machine, there is no risk of damage to the fine thread for the ER25 clamping nut!

This lathe is equipped with a latest generation spindle.
There is a groove for the ASR (Euro) drain safety system on the spindle with M33 x 3,5 thread mount!
Suitable accessories (e.g. chucks and faceplates with a run-off safety groove) can be fixed on the spindle using a separately available clamping ring, thus preventing the possible running off of a workpiece!

(Explanation of the ASR (Euro) system: In order to prevent the safety risk of a workpiece running off, even with heavier or unbalanced turning objects, the ASR (Euro) runoff safety system has been established. For safety reasons, modern lathes have a motor brake that slows the workpiece to a standstill after the machine is switched off. Since force is built up against the direction of the thread, the face plate or the chuck that holds the tool can “run off”. Even if the lathe is used in the opposite direction of rotation using a switch (e.g. when grinding the workpiece), the force works against the thread direction of the spindle.
Until now, turning accessories such as chucks or faceplates were fixed to the spindle of the lathe with screws. These fixing screws can damage the spindle thread as they press against the spindle. With the ASR (Euro) drain safety system, the safety works with a separately available clamping ring, which mechanically connects the spindle with, for example, the faceplate and thus prevents damage.)
